This guidebook was published with support from the Department of Tourism, Karnataka, to promote Eco-tourism in the Uttara Kannada district.

 

Uttara Kannada is a land where the Western Ghats meet the Arabian Sea, creating a unique landscape of pristine beaches and cascading waterfalls amidst lush forests. The district is home to a few highly endemic flora and fauna, which can be seen only in the natural habitats of Uttara Kannada. The article encourages exploring the rich biodiversity of the district via Wildlife Sanctuaries & biodiversity hotspots, immersing in rich culture, and visiting historical sites of Uttara Kannada. This publication comprises district-wise information regarding heritage sites, biodiversity reserves, cultural & religious centres, and unique natural sites such as estuaries, mangroves, swamps, river valleys and more.

 

This publication, a collaborative effort with the Department of Tourism, Karnataka, served a significant role in promoting ‘Eco-tourism’ in Uttara Kannada district. It not only provides valuable information about the district’s unique natural sites but also helps to create awareness about their importance to the public, thereby contributing to the conservation of these precious ecosystems.

This exclusive guidebook, a collaborative effort by TREC and various naturalists and snake conservators, was published with their valuable contributions. The information regarding snake descriptions was borrowed from different literature, making this a comprehensive resource for snake enthusiasts and children in Uttara Kannada.

 

The guidebook is designed to be a practical tool, providing brief but important information regarding snakes of Uttara Kannada. It includes identification, description, photographs, and habitats, areas of distribution, activity patterns, feeding habits, conservation status, and nature, in both English and Kannada. This consolidated information book empowers snake enthusiasts and children, allowing them to learn more about this precious group of Reptiles and understand their environment better.
